22 PAX came and conquered. We had 2 FNGs. Welcome Happy Gilmore and Crazy Train.
I am guessing Gummy Bear got his illegal double post today. Make sure to give him crap about it.
Lots of PAX needing prayers so keep them in your thoughts. We have some events coming up so please stay on top of those.
Get those FNGs out.

Leadership moment- reference to 1 Peter 4,
Above all, let your love for one another be intense, that is intentional even when inconvenient. As each one has received a gift, use it to serve one another as good stewards of God’s grace. Whoever preaches, let it be with the words of God (not man), and whoever serves, let it be with the strength that God supplies. So, we’re told to love & lead, and do so that in all that you do God may be glorified.
Backblast: Saturday, 5/23/26 Sharknado @ The CP Square
2-Year Manny Celebration and the Persian Wars @ the Sauer Patch 5-16-2026
11 PAX (including a FNG) came out for some rucking and a very Pheidippides beatdown on a beautiful May morning.
Warmup
- Good morning x 10 IC
- Bean Pickers x 10 IC
- Wood Chop x 10 IC
- Arm Circles (FW/BW small/wide) x 10 IC
The Thang
Pheidippides’ run from Athens to Sparta (estimated 150 miles), so we will do 150 reps.1 Lap around the Lake. At the start, halfway, and at the stop, we did the following
- SSHx25 IC
- Perfect Squat x 10 IC
- Perfect Merkin x 10 IC
- 5 Burpees OYO
Once we arrived at Sparta (playground) we were told the Spartans couldn’t go to battle until the full moon, 6 days later. Well, we didn’t have 6 days but we had 6 minutes. PAX divided into 2 groups, one at each of the carousels. Groups rotated. Half ran/pushed the carousel counter-clockwise for 1:30, while the other half held plank. at 1:30, they switched. After that, they repeated that sequence, but pushing the carousel clockwise. 6:00, including 3 minutes of planks and 3 of running in circles and getting dizzy.
Pheidippides chose to not trust the message of delay to another messenger, so he ran the 150 miles back to Athens. Once again, PAX ran a lap around the lake, and at 3 points, did:
- SSHx25 IC
- Perfect Squat x 10 IC
- Perfect Merkin x 10 IC
- 5 Burpees OYO
Once he arrived at Athens, he brought the message of the 6-day delay before reinforcements, and chose to march to battle with the Athenian army. They set off for the historic Battle of Marathon.
PAX paired up and marched and battled, Dora style.
- Timer was marching, overhead or somehow carrying coupon to a lightpole and back.
- 100 step-ups
- 200 dips
- 300 one-arm rows (150 each arm)
We were running out of time, so instead of simulating Pheidippides’ run from marathon back to athens (roughly 25 miles), we did our best to do 25 burpees in the final 2 minutes. A couple of PAX completed the 25 after time.

I could go on forever about what this group means to me, but I’ll just say for the hundredth time that without F3, the move from Louisville to Crown Point would have been utter misery. I mentioned that besides you guys, the only other friend I’ve made in 2+ years was Troy (Nacho Libre) who I convinced to come out because we just bought a new house about 10 minute South, and will no longer live down the street from him and his family.
Anyway, I don’t know where 2 years have gone, but you guys have gone from workout partners, to friends, to family in that very short time. I appreciate every morning and every moment I get out there with all of you.
I want to shout out Campbells because my history lesson throughout the workout was inspired by his Bible lesson from Thursday’s BD. I was really inspired by the message and loved the idea of teaching a bit throughout the workout. It was a memorable first Sauer Patch Q for me, for so many reasons.
On a final note, we’re moving within Crown Point at the beginning of July and I plan to have a 2nd F event once we’re settled but before we have to close down the pool for the season. More to come later in the summer.
As always, thanks for allowing me to lead. Until next time,
Pheidippides
BACKBLAST: Saturday, 04/08/23 Pop Quiz @ The Hub
QIC: HHH
PAX: Tank, In the Can, PacRat, The Mick, GingerBilly, Scarecrow, Spur, Lights Out, R-22, EKG, UPS, Wrangler, El Guapo, Nacho Libre, No Doubt, Kato, Optimus, Crash, OCB, Peyton, Excellent, Bob Vila, Dr. Freud, Minion, and HHH.
The first 6 PAX above and me did some prework before the beatdown. It was a little chilly, but all-in-all it was a nice morning! We had 2 FNGs and 5 down range PAX; that is pretty awesome. Hopefully, we will see those DR PAX once in a while; don’t be strangers. The 2 new FNGs live in Munster so hopefully the Dump continues to grow along with Troy. I was already working on this Q before finding out we would have all these guests, but I thought this would be a perfect workout for them and NWIND. Here is what we did.
Warm Up
Who can recite the Disclaimer? (PacRat)
SSH (25 IC)
Mission Statement (Dr. Freud)
MNC (25 IC)
5 Core Principles (Multiple responses from PAX)

How many Q points make up the Q Source, the F3 Manual on Virtuous Leadership?
Answer: There are 50 Q points in the Q source…
Penalty Burpees (10 OYO)
How many segments or categories are the Q points grouped into?
Answer: There are 4 Quadrants of the Q source
What does G3L stand for?
Get Right, Live Right, Lead Right, and Leave Right.
4 x 4’s (4 OYO)
Get Right
WMH OYO while reading
(The first Quadrant, or Q1.0)
A man must Get Right before he can do anything else
Definition of Get Right: The Pursuit of Proper Personal Alignment
Fitness is a man’s Right relationship with himself, Fellowship is his Right relationship with the people with whom he is in Proximity and Faith is his Right relationship with his creator, the SkyQ .
Arm Circles F/B OYO while reading
The order of the Get Right (1-Fitness, 2-Fellowship and 3-Faith) is prescriptive, not random. Although it might seem philosophically that Faith should come first and that Fellowship should precede Fitness, that just does not turn out to be true as a practical matter.
An unfit man is a slave to his lack of self-control
To be able to help others, a man must first help himself
This means a man is continually keeping his Concentrica in order and Royalty Race in check.
ABA = Always Be Accelerating.
Concentrica – The circular rings formed by a man’s most Proximate relationships.
Royalty Race – The daily battle to Accelerate the King, Queen and Jester.
3 Light pole laps at an accelerating pace (Mosey/Moderate/Race)
The Thang
Live Right (Q2.0) (Plank)
To Live Right a man must have an ultimate Purpose in mind
To Live Right requires self-sacrifice
Living Right helps a man to stay Right
“In this quadrant, a man who has and continues to Get Right shifts his perspective to other men whose boats are capsized.”
Working together we accelerate faster and go farther than alone!
Partner up, then grab coupons and carry to dumpster lot, then mosey to grab a log
Line up by the trees
Dora 1,2,3
100 merkins, 200 WWIs, 300 squats
Timer: 5 log flips and roll it back
Return logs home
Mosey to Parking Lot and circle up
After “Get Right” and “Live Right” the 3rd Quadrant of the Q source is Lead Right.
What is the acronym we should remember to be an effective Leader?
Penalty burpees (4)
AMRAP Shoulder Taps
The 3rd Quadrant tells us that to Lead Right a High Impact Male must leverage leadership skills VAPE: Vision, Articulation, Persuasion, and Exhortation.
First, he must have Vision, which is the ability to recognize Advantage and the Movement required to achieve it. If he does not know where he is going and why, then he will not be able to Influence anyone else to follow him there.
Second, he must be capable of Articulation, which is the act of describing his Vision to others. People will not abandon their Status Quo for a superior position unless they understand where they are going.
Third, he possesses the means of Persuasion, which is the initiation of first Movement. Despite their recognition that a Leader’s Vision is Advantageous, human nature is to cling to the Status Quo even it is inferior. Through Persuasion, a Leader convinces people to begin Movement and gain Momentum.
Fourth, because Movement produces uncontrollable circumstances, the Leader knows that Obstacles (Problems that impede Movement) will inevitably arise. An Effective Leader is ready to use Exhortation to incentivize his followers to breach Obstacles and maintain Momentum toward Advantage
Does anyone know the leadership virtues?
The Virtuous Leader must also cultivate the 5 C’s: Candor, Commitment, Consistency, Contentment, and Courage. These 5 habits and ethics of moral excellence enable a man to be who a leader is.
Penalty Burpees (5 OYO)
AMRAP Mt. Climbers
First, he must have Candor, which is the Habit of graciously telling the hard truth and demanding to hear it from others. For a Group’s Movement to be truly voluntarily, its members must know the truth. If their acquiescence is premised upon the chicanery of the Group’s Leader, the Outcome will not be Virtuous even if it is Advantageous.
Second, he must have Commitment, which is unwavering loyalty to the Group and unflinching determination to accomplish its Mission. Effective Leadership alone may achieve short-term results, but it takes a Committed Leader to obtain long-term Advantage for the Group.
Third, he must be Consistent, in that he is unchanging in nature, standard or effect over time. Inconsistent Leaders cannot be fully relied upon and ultimately produce inconsistent results.
Fourth, he must possess Contentment, which is the stability of emotion engendered by the consistent pursuit of Joy rather than happiness. Only a Contented man can abandon the pursuit of his own Personal Comfort.
Fifth, he must be a man with Courage, which is the Habit of setting aside fear to turn hardship into grace. While a Leader may be Effective by pretending that fear does not exist (at least in him), the Virtuous Leader accepts fear as the natural and necessary human emotion that it is and overcomes it through Preparedness and self-control.
Break into groups of 4-5 (coupons just in case)
Each PAX takes turns calling out an exercise

During announcements, I shared what I was going to say during Mary for Leave Right.
How are they working to build a legacy?
What does legacy mean to them?
Only a Virtuous Leader can leave a Legacy
Legacy is constructed through the HIM’s development of Virtuous Leaders
Great job by everyone. I believe Scarecrow got in 7 miles, GB did 5.5, and I did 3.1 as did the ruckers. I am guessing Spur got in 7 miles or more during the beatdown. Very cool to have a triple respect amongst us this morning! What a great mix of guys this morning! The new logs sucked and the Dora took longer than expected. I was hoping to do another round of each PAX calling out an exercise and some Mary. It was a lot of talking so I will try and pare it down in the future. Learned how to pronounce chicanery and it’s definition. Not sure how that slipped passed me when I was copying and pasting. Oh well. I will do some penalty burpees as suggested right before the next boot camp.
We split up for coffee so I do not know what the Dunkin boys chatted about, but I can tell you that the fellowship team is cooking up some pretty sweet events.
Hope you like the Q because most of mine moving forward will be around a specific Q point from Q Source.
Sign up for the Hub Run and Food Bank events. Also, be on the lookout for Peyton’s MasterClass!
Happy Easter everyone!
SYITG,
HHH
