The rain held off and we got a chance to hit the stairs. There were a few puddles to dodge but the pax figured it out after the first flight. I felt like we had a good combination of exercises and received the workout I was looking for. Need to maximize the VO2. 100% attendance at Dunkin today. We had some great discussions regarding the investment club. Stay tuned….

Mary: Part of Thang, Pt. 2
Moleskin:
Different types of workouts have different purposes. Endurance gets the HR up (Monday at Patmos). Strength hurts the arms (Tuesday at Troy). Balance and flexibility helps with both of those but won’t negatively affect either (Wednesday at Dump). Normally, balance tests are used for 60+ y/o to assess fall risk (shout out to double respects). I modified some common balance tests to make them more challenging, but kept the same exercises we all know (like Monkey humpers but keep your eyes closed). You really don’t need any equipment to get a great workout. Shout out to F3 principles of being free of charge.
Balance gets harder when you go from two feet to one foot, from a firm surface to an unsteady one, and from open eyes to closed ones. It also gets harder when you move in more than one plane (not just forward and back, or up and down, but side to side, as well). When you close your eyes, the only thing keeping you up is your neurons (DCML for you nerds out there), which requires you to focus harder than normal to stay up. We played with this idea today. Specific exercises listed below, but they are all based on these principles. Grateful to lead. Excited to see everyone’s improvement at the end of the month (including my own).
Note: Key to balance is overall surface area of your base of support. Less surface area = less stable.
Unique exercises for this Q
- Pigmy marmoset humpers
- The pigmy marmoset is the tiniest monkey. Gorilla humpers are wider than shoulder width. Monkey are shoulder width. Spider are feet together (touching). Pigmy marmoset are feet in a line (toe to heel) while doing the humper motion. Makes it easier to fall sideways. Switch lead foot halfway though (Q must call out).
- Touchdown catches
- Imagine you are diving for a touchdown catch in the end zone. That’s what this motion is. With two or one foot on the ground, reach forward with both hands as if there is a football in front of you. Reach as far as you can without falling.
- There is also a sideway variant. Do the same thing but reach to the side as far as you can without falling. Do the same on the opposite.
- Ring Of Fire coupon pass
- Circle up with coupon in hand. Stand on one foot (Q calls out) and put coupon in one hand (if able). Then pass coupon to your other hand, then the next PAX, while also taking the coupon from the PAX on the other side. Pass them until you get yours back. That’s one round. Do as many rounds as the Q wants. When done, switch legs and switch directions, and do the same amount in the other direction.
- This one got the most falls (eg, most difficult). Everyone had a different weight for the coupon so adjustment on the fly was necessary.

Part 2 sucked. Everyone thank phiddippides because I hate murder bunnies so I was going to pretend to forget about those even though they fit the theme. But his preblast made me add it. It sucked.
Great work to everyone today. Nice seeing Trader joe out at the dump and talking about our love for Scotland together at coffee.
Still dont understand that donnie darko movie but maybe this will get me to watch it again.
Thank god for everything, even when days are hard.

Nice work guys. I pulled the theme from wanting to mess around about easter coming up yet bringing the pain. That made me think of the movie Donnie Darko. Strange movie. I couldnt tell you what its about. I did look up the spark notes and something about the world ending in 28 days so I tried to make the reps in 28 or 7s.
Grab an April Q. Doubling up at the dump is fun Ive done it twice now. You can build off a part 1 and part 2.
Thanks for letting me lead

BACKBLAST – 3/18/26 – Double Dare!

PAX: Dr. Scholls
Q: PacRat
It was cold. These high 20’s low 30’s days are getting colder now that they are interspersed with 75-80 degree days. Even low 40’s when humid and windy are hard to tolerate.
It’s 0530 and I’m warming up, and Dr. Scholl’s lands it. We circle up, reiterate the reason we are there, who we are, and what we do.

Mosey lap 2 long laps. A little over 1/3 of a mile. Grab your coupons again and place them on the middle tier of the Amp
TheThang
OK I’mma level with you chief. It’s loosely an obstacle course. The only real obstacle is running out of breath. but it was fun to think of it as one

- Start on the stage and perform 7 burpees (yellow box)
- Run to the 1 and either perform 3, 8-cout step-ups, OR 3 Sumo box jumps, then level up
- Walk to the 2, then perform the other (if you started with step-ups, switch to box jumps and vice versa)
- Grab your coupon (indicated by the stars) and perform 20 coupon rows
- Walk to the 3, then pick – 3, 8-count step-ups, or 3 Sumo Box jumps
- Wlk to the 4 and do the other
- At the top, in the yellow square, perform another 7 burpees
- Run back down the amp to the stage
- Run 1 lap (the paved wings, and the asphalt path. Just as you see in the above pic). End on stage
Repeat this for 3-5 sets. However long it took to get to 6:07a
Recover, grab your coupon, walk it to the stage, then walk it back to the Flag
Mary
Not too much, but some Broga stretching, etc

There you have it. I had a Amp plan, but this came to me right when I woke up. I’ll keep my Amp plan for Patmos.
For those that were there, Double Dare was a Nickelodeon show before Nickelodeon was known as Nick and when it had a more wholesome approach to entertainment. In 7th grade, I remember running off the bus to get to the living room TV to watch it right as we got home from school. The set seemed so much bigger then, and the obstacles seemed much more difficult. But all the kids talked about Double Dare and how awesome it was. Another win for the late 80’s / Early 90’s.

Dr. Scholl’s and PacRat with Double Dare host Marc Summers
The main reason we stuck to Burpees instead of Merkins is because Elsa put us through the ringer on Tuesday. We were toast and did so many damn merkins it almost felt like The Murph. We went up and down downtown Highland and we loved it. If I counted correct, we were a hair short of 200 merkins. and close to 100 were the hard way. The running and steps added plenty of cardio, and we couldn’t effectively travel with the coupon.
Well good on ya mate for hanging with us. Come on out to the Dump. We’d love to see you there.
