11 PAX (including a FNG) came out for some rucking and a very Pheidippides beatdown on a beautiful May morning.
Warmup
- Good morning x 10 IC
- Bean Pickers x 10 IC
- Wood Chop x 10 IC
- Arm Circles (FW/BW small/wide) x 10 IC
The Thang
Pheidippides’ run from Athens to Sparta (estimated 150 miles), so we will do 150 reps.1 Lap around the Lake. At the start, halfway, and at the stop, we did the following
- SSHx25 IC
- Perfect Squat x 10 IC
- Perfect Merkin x 10 IC
- 5 Burpees OYO
Once we arrived at Sparta (playground) we were told the Spartans couldn’t go to battle until the full moon, 6 days later. Well, we didn’t have 6 days but we had 6 minutes. PAX divided into 2 groups, one at each of the carousels. Groups rotated. Half ran/pushed the carousel counter-clockwise for 1:30, while the other half held plank. at 1:30, they switched. After that, they repeated that sequence, but pushing the carousel clockwise. 6:00, including 3 minutes of planks and 3 of running in circles and getting dizzy.
Pheidippides chose to not trust the message of delay to another messenger, so he ran the 150 miles back to Athens. Once again, PAX ran a lap around the lake, and at 3 points, did:
- SSHx25 IC
- Perfect Squat x 10 IC
- Perfect Merkin x 10 IC
- 5 Burpees OYO
Once he arrived at Athens, he brought the message of the 6-day delay before reinforcements, and chose to march to battle with the Athenian army. They set off for the historic Battle of Marathon.
PAX paired up and marched and battled, Dora style.
- Timer was marching, overhead or somehow carrying coupon to a lightpole and back.
- 100 step-ups
- 200 dips
- 300 one-arm rows (150 each arm)
We were running out of time, so instead of simulating Pheidippides’ run from marathon back to athens (roughly 25 miles), we did our best to do 25 burpees in the final 2 minutes. A couple of PAX completed the 25 after time.
Moleskin
I could go on forever about what this group means to me, but I’ll just say for the hundredth time that without F3, the move from Louisville to Crown Point would have been utter misery. I mentioned that besides you guys, the only other friend I’ve made in 2+ years was Troy (Nacho Libre) who I convinced to come out because we just bought a new house about 10 minute South, and will no longer live down the street from him and his family.
Anyway, I don’t know where 2 years have gone, but you guys have gone from workout partners, to friends, to family in that very short time. I appreciate every morning and every moment I get out there with all of you.
I want to shout out Campbells because my history lesson throughout the workout was inspired by his Bible lesson from Thursday’s BD. I was really inspired by the message and loved the idea of teaching a bit throughout the workout. It was a memorable first Sauer Patch Q for me, for so many reasons.
On a final note, we’re moving within Crown Point at the beginning of July and I plan to have a 2nd F event once we’re settled but before we have to close down the pool for the season. More to come later in the summer.
As always, thanks for allowing me to lead. Until next time,
Pheidippides
