3 pax kept the Wednesday Ruck alive even if it almost killed us.
Who was there? What did we do? What did we learn?
Who was there?
PAX: The Rock, Optimus, Editor. The Rock and Optimus shared a 45-pound coupon even though The Rock proposed toting a 60-pound sandbag. I acted as sherpa for them on their Pathfinder 8-Mile Coupon Ruck, which asks participants to move 45 pounds of coupons between two ruckers and an addition 25 for each participant present. I was an observer with my wimpy 30 pounds.
What did we do?
We rucked up, sacked up and headed north down the trail to 93rd, cut over down the most depressing road around, thought of going up Broadway because I had a potential Aldi run in mind (son wants bananas), but we never made it there. We cut up Merrillville Road, went east on 97th, south on Madison (past our old pal Bethel) and back home mainly via Summit to Indiana to North to the cars.
I stopped to eviscerate a different Family Express, and we only had one mile to go at that point. We nailed the route by finishing with 8.11 miles, though The Rock had done some laps beforehand, making it about 8.4 miles in 2:46 with a nasty coupon (a ruck with two plastic circle plates and a ruck plate).
What did we learn?
*There were plenty of thoughts and analysis and character profiles now that The Rock and I have done a GORUCK event together. We didn’t really chum it up too much during the event, but that’s because we see each other weekly, and we know that events are where your brothers have your back, but you’re also free to be a social butterfly.
*Optimus is itching to do a GORUCK event now.
*The Rock always sees people in the streets that he knows.
*Optimus is going skiing in Utah soon.
*The Rock used to work with a guy who stood up in my brother’s wedding and vice versa.
*Both The Rock and Optimus are big Michigan State fans, and they might do the Bataan Battling Bastards IF they aren’t attending the Final Four with Michigan State in it.
Great job, brothers. You are crushing your first of potentially many journeys through Pathfinder Ruck Training, and that’s always great for me and others to see. Thanks for not making me feel like a bum for not toting a coupon. Apparently I’ll have to do this challenge again next month anyway to get my Monthly Rucking Challenges patch. Eight miles was enough for me. I know it was enough for everyone else. The best part of the coupon ruck is finishing it and knowing that you’ve done it.
