This was my first Ruck workout QIC and I was a bit nervous because I was only going by my previous ruck beat downs. My apologies on the timing of this today for we went over 4 minutes with little to none emphasis on Mary. I scouted the Pavilion yesterday and again the pictures from the Preblast were of the existing outdoor equipment already being in place by the town. Thank you guys for the opportunity to lead a workout again.
Pax in attendance: Blue, Muck, and Kato (QIC)
Warmup (rucks off):
Motivator 5:1
Bean Pickers x 20
Big Arm Circles Forward x 10
Big Arm Circles Backward x 10
Imperial Storm Troopers x 20
Hillbillies x 20
SSH x 20
Perfect Merkin in Cadence x 10
The Thang (Rucks on):
Walked down toward the pavilion along the path. First stop: Ruck curls x 10 each arm, Step-ups on each leg x 10, Durkins x 10 cadence count, Ruck Kettle bells x 10, one arm ruck rows each arm x 10.
Walked down some more toward the pavilion along the path. Second stop: Step-ups on each leg x 10, Durkins x 10 cadence count, Ruck Kettle bells x 10, one arm ruck rows each arm x 10.
When we arrived at the picnic tables, 7 of them, we each stood in front of one with rucks on. From here we did a ladder of sorts with 7 picnic table curls followed by 7 overhead picnic shoulder presses on down to 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1. Then we reversed the 7 with overhead picnic shoulder presses followed by 7 picnic table curls. Ladder down again 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1.
Did a set of overhead ruck presses x 20, then one arm ruck rows x 10 in cadence each arm.
Overhead ruck presses x 10, then one arm ruck rows x 10 in cadence each arm.
From here we rucked over to the Christmas Tree burning man staging surrounded by 8 garbage cans. We picked each other up either with front over the arms barehug followed by rear under the arm bear hugs and walked our partner to the next can. Put them down and switch barehugs, repeat. The odd man out did Merkins OYO until the partners made it around full circle.
Ran out of time so we quickly made our way back to the pavilion for a very quick Mary. Maybe if I had us running from workout point to point we would have made it in time to fit it all in. Lesson learned from first Ruck Q!
Jackie Chan Planks (1 arm with four direction punches) x 10 and switch arms
Walked back to the lot. I didn’t get to try Mountain Mules or Ninja Box Jumps but next workout I Q with no rucks we will do right out of the warmup gates. This is your warning now.
CO-Shih:
Great prayer to end the workout. Thanks guys.
Moleskin: It was great to see Blue back. He was describing all the good eats especially the great deal he got on his meat! When we got to the pavilion we started out on the picnic tables. I swear when I scouted the area yesterday and did some curls with the tables it seemed harder which it did but the shoulder presses weren’t as good of a workout. Muck must have adjusted his stance on these for he was overheard grunting on my end. Anyways, the ladder seemed good here.
Then we rucked over to the “Garbage Can of Death” or “Death circle of garbage cans” I simply haven’t decided what to call this weird placement I found. The theory behind this exercise was that sometimes we have to subdue others when situations may be getting out of hand or already have. We did over the arms and under the arms bear hugs and lifted our teammates while carrying them from can to can. There is not much a man or woman can do I didn’t take into consideration that Blue and I outweigh Muck between 75-100 lbs. Forgive me for not thinking of your back. I was probably thinking anything is better than a fireman’s carry which you have to think of too many things mechanically to do so you don’t get hurt. With that said, we both picked up and lifted Muck. The 3rd person did Merkins until we circled all the way around. I hope Coors can join us the next time we do this so Muck can pick him up as partners. I kinda stole this idea from Coors from the last workout when we did Duck Jousting in a weird way but more for future self-defense exercises. We of course did this with rucks off. I felt we needed to really have a tight grip and bear hug which is needed to really control someone sometimes. When Blue picked me up, he just keep going with no need to stop can to can. Beast mode is back everyone!!!! When I picked up Blue, I had to stop at each can and restart but firm grips for sure. Fun I thought and I really feel it in my legs as I’m writing this!
Since Sip 2 was closed we decided to go to Jose’s for coffeeteria. I think between the three of us we had about 15-20 cups of coffee. We talked about possibly forming a band with our new bassist Blue. Found out he played Bass for his church at one time. We talked about Pumpkins (Muck loves Billy Corgan if you didn’t already know), DMB, Nirvana, Stones, etc……Rock n Roll. Our guess is Buddy Guy will be at both Chicago Rolling Stones concerts as we all bet the house on that! If you any of you are interested in catching Buddy Guy during his birthday month in January at this bar let me know. This is truly a legend that might not be around but what a great showman. I plan on being there my birthday weekend before or after the 15th.
We also discussed next Friday’s Troy Breakfast after the workout. We would like to extend the workout and fellowship for next Friday. There we will be discussing individual workout and non-workout goals as well as those of the other AO’s. We would like to take a team approach to ensuring we help each other with all of the 2019 goals set forth. Sip 2 again is closed until January 1, 2019.
