BACKBLAST — 10/11/18 — Troy A.O. — It’s almost Tyma for the Tough
PAX: Muck, Coors, Oilermaker, Editor (QIC)
4 pax, including three who actually brought their rucks, were decidedly pro-military, pro-honor, and pro-not-getting-lost-on-the-way-to-Troy and worked out with rucks in a windy, 48-degree parking lot in downtown Highland today.
For thematic context: This past Aug. 6 the U.S. Military identified remains found in the 1940s as Pfc. Leonard A. Tyma, a Marine from my hometown of Dyer. On Nov. 20, 1943, he was among about 1,000 Marines and sailors killed on the small island of Betio in the Tarawa Atoll of the Gilbert Islands. He was 21. Today we saluted him.

MOLESKIN
It was a sluggish morning, but we got sweaty and out of breath so something hit. Hat tip to my fellow Dyerrean Leonard Tyma for paying the ultimate price for our freedom all those years ago. Never forget. It was nice to have another honorary Q. I got this idea from my Pathfinder course advisor UHaul, who designed one called the John Holladay WOD based on a similar story of lost-and-found remains from a soldier from his hometown. I think it’s a nice template that should be tried by others.
Great job to all the Brothers who showed up today. The Tough is approaching, and so is the end of Pathfinder. Ruck WODs are therefore vital. Having your own ruck on hand (and on back) saves one from lots of head trauma, as Muck can now attest. Coors persevered through his travails at work and crushed this workout as expected. Muck and Oilermaker also killed everything we did and fought through fatigue. I had residual soreness from completing the Tuesday night 12-mile time challenge in addition to a late night and early morning and could not go as hardcore as I would have liked, even though I ate one of the cocaine jelly beans that Mr. Incredible sells at his store, but I appreciate the uplifting nature of all the Brothers present. If it’s one thing that keeps me coming back, it’s the positive feedback loop, and I appreciate you all.
